Is Prolonged Usage Of Fluticasone Nasal Spray Advisable?

Fluticasone nasal spray. I was prescribed it for a cough I have every winter. I have had an allergy test and everything was negative. I see that it has steroids in it. How much does it have and how long can I continue using the spray? Will the steroids have an effect no mention? The ENT has also told me I should start using simply saline. If I use the simply sailine and the cough comes back should I go back to using the fluticasone? My husband is concerned about the steroids. What should I tell him about using it?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sinus infection which is due to sinusitis infection. Need not to worry. you can take nasal sprays as well such as Fluticasone. You should avoid prolonged use as you will have dependency o it. I would suggest you to take steam 2-3 times a day to relieve congestion, drink plenty of fluid and do warm saline gargles. You should take over the counter antihistamine drug like benadryl. Consult ENT specialist for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may order blood test or get paranasal sinus X-ray done. He/ she may prescribe antibiotics course nasal corticosteroids, antihistamines and decongestant. You should take cough expectorants as well. Avoid intake of hot and spicy food. Avoid cold carbonated beverages.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
