Is Prolonged Bleeding Normal After Delivery?

I gave birth on dec 14 2013. Have had a 3 depo shots since and essure put in. I have not had one day of relief of bleeding since the day I gave birth. I was seen by an ob but they say Im ok..Is not that too much bleeding for one person to be having for so long without a day of relief

Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. It is true that prolonged bleeding is not normal in any state. I would suggest a sonogram of the pelvis to know the status of the pelvic organs. Hormone imbalance, retained products, cysts of the ovary, infection etc., are the likely causes. Since you have had depo shot three times in a row, liver profile also should be checked. Styptics can be used to control the bleeding. Supportive treatment is given. Appropriate management can be given after investigation. Hope this helps.
