Is Pregnancy Possible Without Fallopian Tubes?

Hi, My sons partner has just had her 2nd ectopic pregnancy, the 1st one resulted in her having a salpingectomy, she is currently being monitored for the 2nd one before decisions are made whether surgery is necessary. If she has surgery, which kind of assissted pregnancy treatment could she have to become pregnant with no fallopian tubes? Secondly what is your opinion on the medical management using methotrexate

Hello and welcome,

If there are no fallopian tubes then she can conceive using invitro fertilisation or test tube baby technicue. In this the egg is collected from the ovary, fertilised outside and then the baby is transferred to the uterus. So the role of tube is done away with.

So please do not worry, she still has a chance.

About methotrexate, it can be used in selected women with ectopic and shows very good results provided that the case selection is proper and there is a monitoring system to assess response to therapy in place. We do use it in women that are suitable candidates. So it is a good option if possible to use it.

Hope this satisfies your query.
