Is Pregnancy Possible While On An Expired Implanon Implant?

I had the Implanon implant inserted in June-July of 2008 after giving birth to my son. Here it is November of 2016 & I still haven t had it removed. Is there anything I should be concerned about considering it s been over 8 years since it was implanted & 5 years of being expired? It doesn t bother me at all. If I can still get pregnant, which actually seems to be extremely impossible, is there any risks or harm that I need to know about that could potentially happen? You would think with it being expired for over 5 years & trying everyday, it wouldn t be so hard! I can honestly say, everything seems to be exactly the same when I first had it implanted. My period hasn t been regular since day one. I ve had many 3-6 month spans without anything at all & then times it was either light (spotting) or extremely heavy. You never know the time frame until you actually start, which in turn leaves me not knowing if it will last 4-6 hours or 5-7 days. Why is it so irregular after all this time? 10 years ago, it was the exact same time every month & never lasted more than 48-72 hours. Why has my body & hormones not changed back?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Pregnancy is always a possibility if you are still on expired implant birth control device as the protection would have weaned off after the specified period.
In case your periods does not restore back to normal even after 4 to 6 months following expiry of the implant, you need to check your hormone levels in blood and get an ultrasound scan of the abdomen done to know what could be the cause for it.
Kindly get the necessary investigations done and consult Gynecologist for clinical evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
