Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking Levonelle Post Unprotected Sex?

hi, Hope you re well? I am worried about a possible pregnancy. Last period started on the 4th Dec and finished on the 9th Dec. I had unprotected sex on the 19th December midday - my partner and I didn t have sex for 2 months and he came massively. Ovulation should have been on the 21st Dec. according to my tracker. Took Levonelle on the 22nd before 8.00am. (On the third day) I am not using any other regular method of contraception and had dizziness on the 25th Dec. My next period should be on the 5th of January but they use to come earlier whenever taking the morning After pill as I haven t had any periods yet after taking it a few days ago. I am getting worried. - I know I should wait at least 7 days but would appreciate having your opinion on my current situation. Is there a possibility that I may be pregnant and can I do a blood pregnancy test to find out now?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

No pregnancy chance after taking levonelle is very less & intake of I pill post unprotected sex should avoid pregnancy. Emergency contraceptive pill or Levonelle pill work by preventing implantation of fertilized egg on uterus. It should be taken as early as possible. It is 95% successful if taken within 24 hours & 70% succesful if taken 24-72 hours of getting pregnant.
As your partner have taken the pill within 72 hours of sex, You should now relax as pregnancy possibility is less. However you should have taken the pill earlier to be more effective.
Now your next period might be delayed. The early bleeding or period you normally face after intake of pill is breakthrough bleeding, which is common after intake of an emergency pill like levonelle.
Use condom or regular contraceptive pill as method of conception in future. Taking more emergency contraceptive pills can cause problems like irregular periods, ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome & even infertility.

If your periods get delayed by more than 2 weeks, you should do a pregnancy test to rule-out pregnancy possibility.

For more queries consult a gynaecologist
