Is Physical Therapy Effective For A Meniscal Tear?

I have a small radial tear in my medial meniscus in my right knee. I hurt my knee in April doing squats at the gym and it seemed to be getting better until July when I hurtt it again dancing. I m 48 and I don t want surgery. Can my meniscus heal with PT and things that increase circulation to knee like neuromuscular therapy and acupuncture?

General & Family Physician 's  Response

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Decreasing the load to knee will be helpful for your problem. You can continue physiotherapy and muscle strengthening exercises. Quadriceps muscle strengthening exercises will be helpful to decrease the load on knee. If there is severe tear and particles causing knee locking then surgery will be required. Minor and stable tears can get healed with out surgery.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
