Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 53 years old and have had a pretty normal ontime period since age 11. I now have been spotting for the past couple of months. It stops for a few days to a week, then starts up again. Its not alot, but enough that I have to wear a pantyliner all the time. Could this be the start of menopause?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Menopause is characterized by reduced menstrual flow and irregular cycles- skipped cycles. You are experiencing spotting which is recurring after a week. This has to be investigated because the irregular bleeding has to be considered suspicious during menopausal or post-menopausal stage. Clinical assessment and relevant investigations like endometrial curreting or biopsy has to be taken for histopathological examination to rule out atypical changes in the endometrium. Consult your gynecologist for consultation.
