Is Passing Dead Worms In Stools Even After Being On Vermox Normal?

My daughter and I have been passing dead worms in our poo for a month. Our doctor doesn't know what kind of worms they are. They're 3-4cm long. 1-3mm thick. They dont seem to have a "head" just look like small, clear earthworms. Our house has been infested with fleas so most likely got them from that. She prescribed 2 vermox a day for 3 days. We had our last dose 2 days ago but are still passing dead worms. Is that normal? And do you know what kind of worms we might have? Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The worms as mentioned in your post are Pinworm/ Threadworm.
They are a common intestinal parasite.

It can be treated by intake of Anthelmintic (anti-worm) medicines like Albendazole/ Mebendazole preparations (Vermox) as advised by your doctor.

Presence of dead worms in stool is a good sign. However, for complete eradication of the parasite, the dosage needs to be repeated again after 2 weeks.

Frequent hand washing and routine household cleaning measures will help reduce the spread of pinworm infection to the family.

Wishing a Good Health.
Take care.
