General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

Yes, it can cause harmful effects if taken in larger doses.
She needs to be treated in the hospital immediately.

Doxepin (tricyclic antidepressant) is used to treat anxiety or depression.
Based on the history given your friend seems to have developed toxicity due to overdose of Doxepin.

Overdose of Doxepin can cause excessive drowsiness, confusion, disturbed concentration, transient visual hallucinations, dilated pupils, agitation, hyperactive reflexes, stupor, muscle rigidity, vomiting, hypothermia, hyperpyrexia, constipation, retention of urine, increased heart beats with irregular rhythm, hypertension, etc.

She needs to be taken immediately to the hospital for the management of poisoning which in addition to general support may also need administration of certain drugs such as Physostigmine and Diazepam to overcome the harmful effects of overdose.

Hope this will help her.
