Is Old Filling Completely Removed For Repeating Root Canal Procedure?

I had a root canal procedure some time ago and a year after it was done the tooth broke in half. Five years ago the temporary filling cracked and was replaced, now part of this filling has broken away. Does the dentist have to remove all of the old filling(most of the tooth) or can he remove to good material and refill? Will a new filling bond with old material?

Hello

Thanks for consulting hcm

Read your quey as you have rct treated tooth and now filling is broken dont be worried so much consult oral surgeon and go for new filling . Old restoration doesnt bond with new restoration . After that go for functional prosthesis (ceramic or metal cap ) of rct treated tooth after capping your restoration will not break easily .

Hope I have answered your query .
