Is Non-protective Intercourse Safe?

Hey, I had to stop my pill for about 5 weeks so my natural hormone levels could be checked, and during that time I didn t get a period. Before that I didn t get a period for 2-3 months too. Would it be safe to have sex without protection, just the pill?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic.I understand your concern.
* Oral contraceptive pills when taken regularly, without a break ( as directed ) gives full safety from conception.
- At the same time unprotected sex does not give any safety against sexually transmitted diseases.
- Not getting periods after stopping contraceptive pills .. & with unprotected sex, has all the chances of pregnancy. Please go for home pregnancy test to confirm/ exclude pregnancy.
* Some oral contraceptives ( with single hormone progesterone ) have aside effect causing gap in periods... you might have it, while you missed period over 2-3 months & in such a case you would have safety if pills are taken regularly. OR
- May be you have hormonal imbalance ( PCOD )causing such gap in .. which needs to be treated....& at least barrier contraception is needed if you don't wish for a baby.
Thanks.
