Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my mom is 86 and lives in her own home. She is showing signs of dementia but I think it is because she is alone. One member of our family wants to move in to help her and I agree, The others think putting her into a seniors appartment will help, what do you think??
Hi, Having somebody around an elderly is a good thing. With or without dementia it is a good thing. You need to discuss the situation with your mother. Would she be comfortable having that particular family member around or would she be more comfortable in a seniors apartment. She needs to be taken into confidence before any decision is taken. I would think, she would be more comfortable and have good support in a seniors apartment. There would be trained people around, especially if your suspicion of dementia is present. Check the seniors apartment for facilities and make sure it is upto standards to take care of her and no harm comes to her.
If you have any further queries, do ask again.
