Is Minor Nose Bleeding While Sleeping A Side Effect Of Amoxicillin Taken To Treat Strep Throat?

My 6 year old son has been on Amoxicillin for 3 days to treat strep throat. He feels much better with no fever for 48 hours. But for the past 3 nights he has had a minor nosebleed while sleeping. Is this a side effect of antibiotics or strep? They are minor and stop within 2 minutes with minimal bleeding.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hi and thanks for the query,
the nose bleeds are not a side effct of antibiotics and also not because of throat infection.
in children the most common cause of nose bleed is nose picking. nose bleeds also tend to be more common in winter because of the dryness.
do not worry.
you can pinch his nose tightly during bleeding.
you can also instill 10 drops of saline nose drops 3 times a day for 3 days.
if the bleeds continue then you should have a doctor take a look inside his nose.
regards,
dr rajkishori.
