Is Lower Back Pain, cramping And Bloating Sign Of Pregnancy?

Hi I recently took the Plan B pill on Wednesday it was 86 hours after unprotected sex. I was ovulating during the time of unprotected sex and don t know if the Plan B pill will work for me. It is too late to do anything now. But I have experienced lower back pain, abdominal cramping, bloating with some clear discharge that doesn t smell or itch. Could those symptoms mean that the Plan B pill is working?

Hallow Madam,

As you have very rightly doubted, the success of post coital contraceptive pill is indeed questionable. It is successful if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex.

Now, please wait for your menses to appear. If they do not appear, do urine pregnancy test and/or ultrasonography for detection of pregnancy. These tests are to be performed 8-10 days after the missed period, earlier they may be false negative. If you are pregnant and you do not want to continue with this pregnancy, you may opt for Termination of pregnancy by medicines. Mifepristone and Misoprostol are quite safe, successful and effective medicines which effects the termination of pregnancy safely up to 9 weeks of pregnancy. They have to be taken with the advice of and under the observation of Obstetrician.

Failure to abort after these medicines has to be terminated by surgical evacuation. There is risk of foetal malformation if such pregnancy is continued.

I hope you have got comprehensive advice.

Hello dear
Understand your concern
As you taken Plan B pill after 72 hour, it is not protect against the pregnancy. And chance of pregnancy is high as you had unprotected sexual intercourse in your ovulation time that is fertile period of your cycle.
lower back pain, cramping clear discharge and bloating are symptoms of pregnancy. But these symptoms are not confirmatory and variable from person to person.
Cardinal symptoms of pregnancy is missed period.
SO I advised you to wait for period to come. If period will missed by 8-10 days from your normal period date then go for home pregnancy kit to detect pregnancy. (should be done in morning with fresh urine sample)

In absence of pregnancy it may be side effects of pan B pill (will disappear in 5-6 days) and premenstrual symptoms.
take analgesic, proper rest, maintain pelvic hygiene tablet dizene, take small frequent meal, avoid spicy and fatty food.
Hope this may help you
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
