Is Lower Abdominal Pain Due To Displacement Of Mirena Coil?

I think my minera coil has dislodged and I m getting pain in my back sides lower abdomen, and some bloating. I went to my gp this morning they cant see or find it and treating me with antibiotics as if I have a urinary infection. I do need to wee more but not getting burning sensation just sharp pains. Even walking, sitting and laying on either side can be painful and uncomfortable. They told me to come back end of next week so they can have another look and if they cant they ll organise for to have a scan to see if they can find it. Not sure if I can cope till then with pain

Thank you for your query,

would you please clarify a few points for me?
1) how long have you been on the mire a coil? did you replace it recently? have you had any problems with an IUD( intrauterine device) previously?
2) When you went to your physician, were they able to visualise the IUD thread during a pelvic exam?
3) when was your last period? have you missed a period? have you been pregnant before?
4) Do you have a fever?

It is possible for the coil to be dislodged and enter in to the body cavity.
Urinary tract infection also need to be ruled out by having a urine analysis and culture .

I recommend a visit to your OBGYN to rule out displacement of coil . They should be able to see it during a pelvic exam. If not, imaging studies like an
ultrasound or a CT needs to be done to find out where it is.
Pain is your body's way of telling you something is wrong. Trust your instincts.
Do not wait if you have no relief. The point is to find out what's wrong and get better.
Please visit you GP again and tell them that you have no relief and you would like to know if your coil is in place.

if it is, then I suggest an urine analysis to rule out infection. Since you were given antibiotics, it would be necessary to mention that while you are being tested.
Stay well hydrated and do not take medication to suppress pain unless advised by your doctor and you know what is causing it.

please note that a displaced mirena coil does not provide contraception ( you can get pregnant) and if it is causing inflammation and symptoms like yours, it need to be checked out.
please let us know if you have any further questions.
wish you feel better soon.
