Is injectable Iron like Inj. Imferron in low hemoglobin like 7.49 during 27th week pregnancy safe? Any major side effects and problems in future? Please kindly suggest.

To raise hemoglobin within short time inj. is advisable.
Its main drawback is it is painful.
It should be taken deep intra gluteal region.
No major side effects in future,only some times it gives staining on the part if given not much deep.

generally below 30 week oral therapy is given and if she is in between 30 to 36 week then parenteral therapy is given
injections are safe though bit painful
but its advisable to for oral therapy first. consult your doctor about it

Hello.Welcome.Injectable iron is safe and can be during pregnancy.Rate of response with parental iron is not faster than with optimal doses given orally.However stores can be replenished in a shorter time by parentral therapy.Side effects are pain,abscess at the site,flushing,palpitations,headache,joint pains and sometimes a severe anaphylactic reaction causing vascular collapse.No problem in future.The cause of iron deficiency should be identified.Good luck.
