Is Loose Bowel Movement With A Spec Of Blood A Sign Of Prostate Cancer?

I am a male age 50 and have recently had very loose bowel movements with just a spec of blood. I also have a thirst and seem to be urinating alot. I don't want to go to my doctor if this is common but fear I may have prostate cancer. Are these symptoms..

Hi,

Loose bowel movement with blood might be related to other gastrointestinal condition like hemorroids, fissure in ano, disease of intestine, rectum and anal canal but not the prostate cancer. So you should not worry about prostate cancer but it warrants detailed evaluation to establish a diagnosis and timely treatment because excess loss of blood may cause anemia or excess loss of fluids may cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.

In my opinion you should book an appointment with gastroenterologist for physical or per rectal examination and a colonoscopy if need be, and blood investigation to assess blood loss and blood sugar like CBC, Liver function test and blood sugar and urine test. Meanwhile you should take lots of fluids like ORS, Fruit juices and lemon water to encounter dehydration and electrolytes disturbances. To allay your anxiety for prostate cancer I would advise you for an ultrasound and PSA test (prostate specific antigen).

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to ask for follow up question I will be happy to help you.

Best wishes,
Dr. B R Hudda
