Is It To Be Concerned About A Child Having Shallow Breathing And Temperature?

Hi. My 14 month old has rapid shallow breathing and temperature. He has had a cough for the last couple of days. He is on a korometrics machine at home for sleeping as he has a severe tracheomalacia since birth and is a tof baby. He doesn t appear to be recessing when breathing. His fast heart rate alarm keeps going of. Should I be concerned and take him to Ed. Thank you.

Hi...by what you quote I feel that your kid might be having a lower respiratory illness either viral or bacterial. Please take him to the nearest emergency department as soon as possible. Rapid and shallow breathing is definitely a sign of respiratory distress and all the more so with the back ground of tracheomalacia and with assisted ventilation.

PLEASE TAKE HIM TO THE NEAREST EMERGENCY ROOM IMMEDIATELY.

Regards - Dr. Sumanth
