Is It Safe To Use Medicines After Their Due Date ?

I did not use all of this medicine and the date to use before is 8 25 2013. Is it safe to use later than that date? and if not how do I dispose of these tablets safely? the original amount was 15 and there is 11 1/2 left. I also have benzonatate 200 mg. 30 capsules and have 8 left. can I keep them in case I have problems in the future or should I dispose of them? How can I safely dispose of these drugs?

using medicine after expiry date is not recommended. potency of any drug reduces after the expiry date so even if you consume the right drug in right doses you will not get the desired effect. benzonatate is an antitussive drug used for suppressing dry cough.my advice is to dispose them after expiry date.safest way to dispose them is to handover them to nearby hospital staff. till then keep them away from children reach.
