Is It Safe To Use Ultiderm For A Long Duration To Cure Dandruff On Scalp ?
Hi ,
I have dandruff on my scalp and I have been using Ulitderm lotion before shampoo from past two years. I take a head wash after every 2 days. Ultiderm helps me reducing dandruff in my hair. Is it safe to use Ultiderm for such a long duration of 2 years or i should go for some other alternative to cure the dandruff?Kindly suggest

Ultiderm lotion contains a potent steroid fluocinolone in a peanut oil base. It is very effective for dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. But long term use can lead to steroid related side effects like skin thinning.
Ultiderm should be used for not more than 2-4 weeks at a stretch, along with an antidandruff shampoo and once the dandruff is under control it is advisable to stop ultiderm lotion and continue with just antidandruff shampoo for maintenance of improvement.
I usually prescribe a 2% ketoconazole shampoo to my patients of dandruff with or without a topical steroid lotion like ultiderm
