It dilates the uterus opening and stimulates uterus to expel out its contents. So it will complete the abortion process. However at times this approach fails. In that case your wife will have to under go a simple procedure called dilatation and curettage (D&C). In this procedure uterus opening is dilated in operation theatre and contents are removed by doctor with the help of instruments. It is done in sedation.
