Is It Safe To Take Xyloproct And Cuplaton For Constipation?

Hi Doctor, I have a constipation problem and feeling something inside the anus. Colonscopy did not reveal anything and I need to push hard for the stool to come out and it is in small pieces. There is also a lot of wind and the colectral surgeon recommended Xyloproct and Cuplaton. I am on these medications for a few days now, there is a lot of gas and the problem does not appear any better. The surgeon suspects the folding of the rectum has dropped closing the anal hole to be smaller and harder for the stool to be released. Can you offer any other explanations or medications for my problems? Many thanks for your help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

I noted the history of constipation, feeling something in anus, colonoscopy is normal, Colorectal surgeon says this may be folding of the rectum that is closing on anus hence causing the problem and advised Xyloproct and Cuplaton which is not effective.Since colonoscopy is normal there is no mass or stricture. Hence I would advise you a new investigations called as ''defecatory MRI or in fact barium enema passing under fluoroscopy control. This will tell us the exact cause and then excision of the redundant part will solve your problem.IF such a problem is not there then this can be taken as IBS wherein you are straining a lot, hence the stool softeners and such things may help by not straining too much and this is sort of bowel training that you will have to undergo.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
