Is It Safe To Take Primoult-N?

Hi, I get my periods around first week of the month I am travelling around that time . My gynae has advised me to take Primoult-N to delay my periods from first May to 11 May till I m travelling. But after going thru the info on website I think that this medicine has lot of complications. Do I try using it before I travel and prepone my periods instead of postponing it.

Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your situation and the concerns regarding the safety of the prescribed medication Primolut-N.

Yes, it is safe to take it.

Primolut N (Norethisterone) is a synthetic hormone progesterone which is commonly prescribed to prepone or postpone the periods and other conditions.

Postponement of period is more safe as compared to preponement.

If you wish to prepone the period you can't predict withdrawal bleeding within the expected time. It may be delayed or occurs earlier which can disturb your travelling and it may make the next cycles irregular.

Hence I would advise you to postpone your period.

To postpone your period you need to take one tablet of Primolut-N (5 mg) 2 times a day, beginning 3 days before you expect your period to start i.e., you may start taking the tablet from 1st May on wards.

You should take the tablets at the same time every day, one in the morning & in the evening. Continue it as long as you wish (maximum up to 2 weeks). Then stop the medicine. Withdrawal bleeding will occur within 3-7 days.

Hope the advice given above would be useful.

Wishing you a happy journey.
