Is It Safe To Take Ibuprofen To Treat Tooth Pain Caused After Wisdom Tooth Removal?

I just had my wisdom teeth taken out recently and am taking a generic form of demoral (50mg) for pain. I took the medicine over 2 hours ago and am still in pain and cannot sleep. Moments ago I took half of a 500mg ibprofen PM tablet. I begin to panic about how this will effect my body, will I be alright?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you got extraction of your wisdom tooth done and due to pain you took Ibuprofen 500 mg for this which is entirely safe unless you are a asthmatic patient. Demoral 50 mg which you took is very less dosage for pain treatment after wisdom tooth extraction as force require for wisdom tooth extraction is very high.

Need not to panic about anything. Your symptoms will start resolving in 4-5 days. Don't touch socket with tongue again and again. Take ibuprofen for 3 days atleast. Do warm saline gargles on daily basis. Take cold water, ice cream for faster healing. Take soft food for few days.

If your pain keeps on persisting even after 4-5 days visit dentist once and get IOPA( X-RAY) done as it could be possible that dry socket could be the cause of pain.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
