Is It Safe To Take Coreg For An Aged Person For A Prolonged Period?
my mom is 89. her blood pressure used to be high, but has been normal to low for a few years. She has an irregular heart beat (it races), but very rarely. She has been on Coreg a year. Is it worth risking the side effects of any of these heart medication at her age?
Hi and welcome to HCM. First very important warning: Do not stop using this drug without first consulting your doctor. Your condition may become worse when the drug is suddenly stopped, especially if you have chest pain (angina) or heart disease (e.g., coronary artery disease, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, high blood pressure). If your doctor decides you should no longer use this drug, you must gradually decrease your dose according to your doctor's instructions.
Dizziness and lightheadedness and are common in old age people using this drug. This drug can be taken by your mother and if benefits outweigh the risks then it is strongly recommended which your doctor would have assessed and prescribed her.
