There is no danger of keeping a patient at home until a patient is extremely violent or suicidal. It has been found in studies that patient has a better outcome if the patients are with their family members rather than in hospitals

Psychiatrist Dr. Jonas Sundarakumar's  Response
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

I understand your concern for your sister's betterment. I hope that she is taking the correct treatment and taking it regularly. Now, regarding the option of whether to stay at home or not, socio-occupational rehabilitation is a vital part of management of Schizophrenia. So, trying to get her to be as active and as engaged as possible would definitely benefit her.

So, I would suggest that you encourage her to do as much activities as possible at home. If her psychotic symptoms are under control, then it would also be a good idea to join some part-time work close to your house, so that she can engage herself productively, at the same time you can ensure she is under regular monitoring and care. If you have any access to rehabilitation services, the that would also be a good option to try.

Wish you all the best.

Regards,
