Is It Safe To Increase The Dosage Of Omeprazole From 20 To 40mg?
Today my doctor s office has changed my Omeprazole dosage from 20 mg to 40 and nurse said to take it with largest meal. I had been taking the 20 mg pill 30 minutes before breakfast (which for me is only a very weak cup of coffee and a biscuit). Doctor s office is closed now and I can t ask for any information - I think it will be very hard to go all day tomorrow without taking Omeprazole, waiting until tomorrow night. Drugstore says to take it as I had been (l/2 hour before breakfast). What difficulty may I encounter? Thank you. DIDN T REALIZE THERE WAS A CHARGE FOR YOUR ANSWER SO JUST DISREGARD. THANK YOU.

Omeprazole can be used at 40 mg for some persons if the 20mg dose is not effective.
If you were having symptoms of reflux on the 20mg dose, this is the reason your doctor may have increased the dose to 40mg.
In terms of the meal , you can use it with your breakfast as you normally do or with your largest meal.
The reason the largest meal was suggested was likely the acid production that would be associated with it.
