I was prescribed 40 mg per day of Propranolol for benign essential tremors. But i was also prescriped by a previous doctor medical marijuana to help with stress. I recently decreased my propranolol dose to only 20 mg per day in the morning and i am curious if i am able to still smoke medical marijuana at night gor relaxation? One dr said it was finr and one advised aganist so im very confused.

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that the chronic intake of marijuana can lead to adverse effects like tolerance and dependence ( which means that you need higher doses to achieve the same result and you need to take this drug.

Besides this side effect, it can interact with propranolol. You should know that marijuana will increase the level or effect of propranolol by affecting hepatic enzyme CYP2D6 metabolism.

Although you are taking a low dose of propranolol, I advise to carefully monitor your heart rate, while combining propranolol and marijuana.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best regards,

Dr. Iliri
