Is It Safe To Give Pepto Bismol For Diarrhea While Taking Acetaminophen In Children?

I have a 7 year old child with a possible viral infection of her lower GI tract and I gave her 10mL of acetaminophen for stomach cramps and fever. Then the diarrhea started and I gave her 5mL of Pepto-Bismal. She still has stomach pain, but I m concerned about the safety of the drug interaction. She s also allergic to NSAIDS. Is it safe to give her any more pain medication? What about Reye s Syndrome?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are no known interactions between peptobismol and acetaminophen so they can be used safely together.

You can use additional medication to help with the pain if she still has pain, if the pain continues or worsens despite medication, it would be best for her to be taken to her doctor.

Reyes syndrome is extremely rare and not likely.

I hope this helps
