Is It Safe To Fly With Pericarditis?

Can you fly on an airplane if you have pericarditis? I was diagnosed with pericarditis a year ago, took ibprophen for two weeks and have been ok ever since minus one episode that was not as severe. I am now 9 weeks pregnant and scheduled to fly from London to the US on Thursday and then another 3 hour flight on Saturday. Another 3 hour flight Monday and then back to London from the US on Friday. I am 40 years old, 150 lbs, and again, 9 weeks pregnant. I seem to be having symptoms of the pericarditis again, so I am concerned if I should be flying?

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

you should undergo 2-D echocardiography before flying. if 2-D echo does not show any evidence of pericardial effusion ,you can undertake flight, otherwise it won't be safe
