Is It Safe To Discontinue Cardizem When Suffering From Frequent PVC S?

I have been taking Cardizem CD 120mg for 4-5 years for frequent PVC s. I do not have angina, no history of MI, no structural abnormalities, normal Echo, normal EKG other than the PVC s. I do have HTN that is well controlled with Fosinopril 20mg qd. I would like to try to discontinue the Cardizem. Is this safe to do?

Cardiologist 's  Response

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding this issue, I recommend you to consult with your cardiologist (who prescribed you Cardizem), as he knows exactly your prior rhythm profile before starting the drug, and also is familial with your medical follow up profile.

In judging about an anti-arrhythmic treatment, we have to investigate its effectiveness.

So, I would recommend you to perform an ambulatory 24 to 48 hours ECG monitoring, and discuss with your doctor on the results.

If you decide together to stop Cardizem, then a periodic follow up, would be necessary to control for any possible arrhythmia events.

Hope to have been helpful to you. Greetings! Dr. Iliri
