Is It Safe To Decrease The Dosage Of Valium Abruptly?
I take 30 mg valum per night didn t have one last night so was cold turkey, could not sleep at all . After last night I want to ween myself off it . I m planning on taking 15 mg tonight to begin, is this a good idea? I hope to be talking to my Doc tomorrow about a detox plan,
Diazepam (Valium) is intended to provide short term relief of conditions like seizures, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, panic attacks, alcohol withdrawal etc. You were given in high doses of Diazepam 30mg, so you shouldn't stop it abruptly due to high risk for withdrawal symptoms, which can have varying intensity over several weeks, though the worst symptoms will be experienced in the first few days after you stop taking Diazepam. Usually, it is recommended to start by cutting the prescription by 10 percent every three to five days, though some patients will need to cut their prescription by 25 percent each week. In your case, I think is more safe if you will start by cutting your prescription by 10 percent every five days.
Wishing you good health, Dr. Elton Halili
