Is It Safe To Collect The Semen At Home For Intrauterine Insemination?

hello doctor, just wondering for intrauterine insemination, does my partner(male) have to be present at the clinic or can i collect his semen at home and produce at the clinic? And also, is it a must to produce a UK GP's referral letter or can it be from a GP from my home country(I'm not a British citizen)

Hello ma'am and welcome.

The reason why a sample is requested to be produced at the laboratory is in order to collect a fresh sample and save it. If at all the sample is collected at home it should be presented to the clinic within a duration of 1-2 hours and not longer.

*Different clinics follow different time durations, so please check with your clinic before going about the whole thing.

As for the referral letter from your GP at home, this is only requested so that we can contact the GP easily if at all the need arises. Providing a letter of a GP from outside the country may conplicate this. Discuss this with your clinic once again.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
