Hello,

I can understand your concern. The clicking noises and pain in ear do not seem to be related with the thyroid tissue or to the fact that you have hypothyroidism. It seems that more likely that you are having problem in the TMJ.

TMJ is short for Temporomandibular Joint, which is located near ear and helps in opening and closing of jaws along with side to side movements of the lower jaw. If this joint is degenerated or is having subluxation, then there are clicking sounds while opening and closing jaws and the pain may be felt in the ear as referred pain.

I would recommend you to visit an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon for the clinical examination of the joint and investigations like x-ray and CT Scan. Diagnosis and treatment can be decided based on the reports.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
