It is possible but rare for patients with Hashimoto to also develop sub-acute thyroiditis which presents as you described painful node at the neck for couple of months. To shorten it once you it happens again your treating doctor and prescribe methylprednisolone single case studies reveal they can reduce the inflammation within a week.
