Is It Normal To Have Pain In Vagina And Mucous Discharge At 38 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

I am 38 weeks pregnant and today I woke up with shooting pain in my vagina. It is awful when I walk and still hurts while I'm resting. It has not gotten any better throughout the day. Baby seems to be moving pretty good still. I also have had a substantial amount of mucous discharge today. Is this normal?

Hello and thanks for the query,

Pain and mucus discharge indicate labor pains. Please check to see if the abdomen is becoming tense along with pain. All of these indicate that labor may begin any minute or may have already begun. So please go to the ER and get a vaginal examination to see if the cervix is opening.

Wish you a safe delivery and happy mother hood.

Thanks for using HCM.
