Is It Normal To Have Lightheadedness After IV?

My wife is having lightheadedness after an iv on the back of her hand. The iv sight hurts, Its been 5 days. Her family has a history of blood clotting disorder. Is this still considered normal? She has yet to use heat compresses or take pain relievers. Our doctor is not available and the hospital is farther than the car will make it. Thanks ahead of time for your thoughts.

hi,
It is suggestive of superficial thrombophlebitis from iv.
The inflammation and pain can be reduced by giving mild analgesics like asprin. Also elastic support helps.
Heparin sodium topical gel(Thrombophob) application to the affected part is of help.

If it is very severe thrombophlebitis then Duplex ultrasonographic scanning is required to know the extent of damage.Hence it is important that you take her to the hospital.
