Is It Normal To Experience Heavy Bleeding After Delivery?

had twins by csection 12 days ago. we came home 2 days later, By then I was no longer bleeding heavy mainly just spotting. This morning when I got up from sleeping about 4 hours I had bled extremely heavy. Within the last 10 hours i have used 10-12 pads bleeding so heavy I ve changed panties 3 along with my shorts. When changing pad the toilet is full of blood and when I wipe there is like stringy looking clots. Im on iron pills twice a day the doctor prescribed due to my iron at 7 upon hospital release. It wad checked 4 days ago was 11.9. I also take labatol 200 mg twice a day. always had perfect blood pressure until 35th week of pregnancy was put in hospital discharged next day when they got it lowered. At week 37 became 178/118 admitted to hospital for treatment to lower and stabilize it. After treatment not being successful the doctor done c section. The doctor has continued the medicine due to blood pressure still being high. Is this kind of bleeding normal or is something wrong?

Hello,
I had gone through your query and understand your concern.

Short answer: Seems like late postpartum bleeding.

Detailed answer:
Thanks for asking on HCM.

You seem to have developed late post partum hemorrhage. It may be due to any left over products of pregnancy or uterus failing to contract. Here you will have severe bleeding. If bleeding is not controlled then condition may become serious. Try to take rest with foot end elevation of bed. Please note that post delivery it is normal to have a discharge called lochia which is also red in color. This is self limiting but bleeding here is not that severe as you have mentioned. So, it's better to consult your doctor immediately.

Hope. this helps.

If you have any other query, feel free to ask.

Regards,
Dr.Prathap Kumar
