Is It Normal For A Frozen Wart To Bleed?

Hi, I ve had what I believe to be a large wart near the base of my thumb for 2 months. I ve unsuccessfully treated it with Compound W and today, went to the dermatologist to have it frozen. It blistered within an hour. When I removed an applied bandage, I noticed that the blister had popped and bled/oozed. (It continues to do so, esp. around one edge, which appears to be partially severed, as though someone had started to slice it off.) Two questions: 1) is this normal? and 2) how should I treat it? My doctor told me I didn t need to bandage it, but I keep bleeding/oozing, so I feel the need to keep it covered. (My initial bandage was soaked.) Do you recommend a topical antibiotic? Also, should I call my doctor in the AM? Thanks very much!

Hi, thanks for sharing your health concerns with HCM!

If I were your physician I would like to tell you that as per your description, this kind of bleeding is expected from the hard base of a wart because the stalk is full of feeding vessels. So please take caution not to manipulate it any way!

Regarding how to treat this I would like to suggest that just apply a pressure bandage or fingers on it as least for 10-30 minutes; by this time it should stop bleeding; however, this is sufficient to stop the bleeding at least temporarily!

Antibiotics to be applied only after the doctor/surgeon has examined it!

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
