Is It Normal For A Baby To Have Sleepless Nights?

hi my daughter who is 22 months old does not need sleep. she can go without a nap until 10 pm and be up before 8 am. there are few days that I do get her to nap and those days she will be up until 12 am. she is usually not fussy and will keep herself busy. I am wondering if it is normal for a child this age to go with so few hours of sleep. also will this hinder her in her development and what can I do to get her to sleep like children her age.

Hello, Sleep is a very important part of child health. A child who is 22 months old actually should have a 1-2 hour nap during the day and at least 10 hours of sleep per night. Sleep disruption can affect development and school performance. I would suggest setting a bedtime at around 8 pm, and allowing her to soothe herself to fall asleep. Allowing her to be fussy for 15 minutes as long as she is well and healthy allows the child to establish their own way to fall asleep. The same would apply to naptime. In addition, no T.V, loud music or fluids two hours prior to bedtime also can help.
