Is It Necessary To Treat Mildly Displaced Sacrum Even After Pain Subsides?

My 4 year old daughter was diagnosed with a 'mildly displaced sacrum' one week ago. I was told to give her 4-5 days; if pain subsided, do nothing, if still in pain, take her to an orthopedist. She is not complaining of any pain and certainly desires to resume normal activity. My questions are: Do we just let it go if she has no pain? Should we be restricting her activities at all? Is an orthopedic consult warranted just based on the diagnosis, even if pain is gone? She is only 4 and I fear long-term consequences in her still-growing body, but also do not want to overreact...any input would be greatly appreciated!

Pediatrician 's  Response
I would first begin by asking you who diagnosed the mildly displaced sacrum malady? Was it not an orthopedic surgeon? If not, why was she not referred to one at that time itself? If the doctor was an ortho surgeon, why not ask that doctor again? I am aware that this is an online query, and I appreciate your anxiety, but I do think that you should be first and foremost thinking about the here and now, rather than what will happen in the future. If the diagnosis is certain, then the ortho surgeon, and that too someone trained in paediatric orthopedics, would be the right professional to go to.

I think you should continue to be cautious till you have a clear picture of what happened and of what is happening to her without being emotional about it.
