Is It Important To Quit Smoking To Treat Clogged Sinuses And Seepage In Ears?

For about 12 years, I have had a clear seepage that drys inside my ear, and on the back of my head. I am a 54-year smoker, age 68. Many days, my sinuses are so clogged or runny, that I take a 10-mg Zyrtec, that seems to help. The seepage is such in my ears, that it drys out, and is similar to dandruff, and needs cleaned out twice a week. What has caused this, and DO NOT tell me to quit smoking.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of clogged sinuses and seepage in ears which seems to be due to obsruction of respiratory passages leading to eustachian tube dysfunction. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to stop smoking immediately as it is exagerrating your symptoms. You should take proper course of antibiotic Ciprofloxacin along with antiallergic medication Sinarest. You should do warm saline gargles on daily basis. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper examination. You should drink plenty of fluids.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
