Is It Helpful To Take Red Wine Along With Lisinopril For High BP?

I began taking lisinopril today for high blood pressure that was diagnosed today. I have been told that drinking a glass of red wine can be beneficial. Can one drink a glass of red wine while taking this medication? Also, I was told to eat more vegetables and fruits, but have read that I should stay away from beans and bananas and other foods that are rich in potassium.

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM .
Read and reviewed your query and health concerns.
IN the given situation, You -can take glass of wine with lisinopril,as polyphyenols/antioxidants in it are known to cause reduction in blood pressure. But along with it,you should restrict fatty, spicy, salty fried food, which could increase blood pressure.
Besides this has many anti-inflammatory, antibiotic like, and anticancer beneficial effects, for which it could be taken.
Consults with physician and nutritionist need to be taken to rule out any existing contra-indications before adding wine.
Wine does reduces risks to CAD(Coronary artery disease) and hence is advisable.

Hope this would help you to plan further of this complex illness of yours.
