Is It Advisable To Inject Vaseline For Diverticulosis?

My GI doctor wants me to ingest frozen Vaseline for diverticulosis. The theory is that the vaseline will fill in the pouches and prevent infection and flare-ups. Have you ever heard of this? I am 65 years old and have had three major bouts of diverticulitis since 2006 . I 2007 I had a sigmoid collectomy and did not have a flare until 2011 when I was hospitalized for 17 days and on IV antibiotics for 2 months.
