Hi Amruta, Welcome to HealthcareMagic Forum.
Your friend is suffering from
Nearsightedness which in Medical Parlance called as Myopia. It is a common vision condition in which he can see objects near to him clearly, but objects farther away are blurry. How old is he? Kindly
consult a Ophthalmologist as it is a easily correctable condition with eyeglasses or contact lenses. Another treatment option for nearsightedness is surgery. It is not a serious condition though. It is common among people who do a lot of reading or other close work. The
surgical treatment options include, Laser assisted in situ
keratomileusis (LASIK),
Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), Anterior chamber
intraocular lens (IOL) implant. Discuss it with his Ophthalmologist whether he is a Potential candidate of surgery, because all eye surgeries have some degree of risk.
He should be getting his eyes checked regularly to know if his Problem is Progressing, should be Wearing sunglasses that block both ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B radiation. Should Maintain a healthy weight and diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables, which have shown to enhance eye health. He should Try foods that contain vitamin A and
beta carotene, such as carrots. Dark leafy greens and fish also may be especially helpful for good eye health, stop smoking if he does and Use adequate light for optimal vision. If he is using computers for a long time daily, he should get some rest every 20 minutes, look at a distance of 20 feet away and blink his eyes 20 times. This is called 20-20-20 formula.
I Wish him Good Health, Take Care.
