Is It A Matter Of Concern If Having Chest Pain After Waking Up Which Subsides Later?

For the past week or so I have been experiencing chest pain when I wake up. I usually sleep on my side so I thought it might be cause of that but now, I m not so sure. I am a 23 year old female, healthy, non smoker. I ve also experienced my right arm becoming numb in the middle of the night but its not the side that I am sleeping on so it is strange that that arm would experience falling asleep feeling . I have not been sleeping well either, I ve been waking up regularly throughout the night for no apparent reasons. This morning was the worst chest pain, it hurt extra to breath in deeply as well. The pain subsided as I woke up and after a shower and my regular morning routine. It s still a little bit there, I m just not sure if it s something I should be concerned about and see a doctor, or if its just the way I ve been sleeping. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Before running into conclusions, if I was your caring doctor would advise to run some cardiac tests including

- EKG
- cardiac echo
- Holter monitoring
- Chest X-ray

apart physical examination.

If the tests will result ok,then, everything might be related to being stressed out or work-overloaded.

I'd also advise to:
- avoid drinking caffeine or energetic drinks
- drink more chamomile tea
- avoid oily, fried, sugary foods

If still no improvement, should consult with a neurologist for further evaluation.
