Is Internal Bleeding Post Surgery For Ruptured Appendix Normal?

My 5-year-old granddaughter had a laparoscopic surgery yesterday for a ruptured appendix. Today her red count has been dropping and they think she has an internal bleed. She is receiving a blood transfusion now. Is this anything to be really worried about or does this happen with this type of surgery.

Brief answer:Not normal
Detailed answer: Hello there. Thanks for asking to healthcaremagic. Bleeding post surgery( either internal or external) is not normal. However the drop in red cell count or hemoglobin might also be relative and not a true anemia which especially can occur after any surgery. No need to worry unless anything is proven. However serial testing of Hb and observation is needed to rule out immediate postoperative complication like internal bleeding.Hope this helps. If any further questions, happy to help you.Take care.
