Is Insulin Necessary For Diabetes?

I am taking four kinds of medication for Diabetes 2 and my recent A1c reading is 8.2 and three months prior to that was 7.9. This readings I was not watching my sugar and carb intake at all. Now, my primary care physician wants me to take insulin. Is it the only way? I don t like the needle at all. Any options? Thanks. Nenette

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The increasing HbA1c implies that the control of diabetes is worsening.

It is understandable to be wary of the needle but the sting from the insulin needle is often slight and there are different types. You can find one that best suits you. If you try it, you may come to realise that it is not as you expected.

Most type 2 diabetics eventually progress to needing insulin replacement. Our bodies need insulin to function, your body has reached the point where is needs a little extra insulin from outside.

It is important for diabetes to be in control because of the possible complications.

You may want to consider the insulin, it would help you.

I hope this helps
