Is Hiatal Hernia Serious?

i am having left abdominal pain. When I sleep and wake up I feel sick and have gas that really smells. Today I was stretching and felt something flip on the left upper abdomen and it felt terrible I kept stretching until it flipped over. I have been told I have a hiatel hernia. Could it be something more serious?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of left abdominal pain and have gas that smells. Felt something flip over in the left upper abdomen on stretching, have been told that you have hiatal hernia and wants to know whether there could be something more serous.
A per the history you have given this looks to be displacement of gas in the bowel on stretching and nothing serious.
You can confirm this by the following:
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position.
Ultrasonography to rule out any mass or so.
Tests of stool and blood.
A course of an antibiotic and metronidazole if indicated on tests.
Hiatal hernia is dangerous only if it is large enough.
