Is Herpes A Sexually Transmitted Disease?

If you have herpes, does your partner have to actually touch the infected area (whehter it has visible sores or not) in order the disease to be transmitted? For example...if you have sexual intercourse & your infected area is on your buttocks & they never touch your back side at all, can I still transmitt the disease. Please advise...

Thank you for query.Herpes simplex virus (HSV1 and 2) can spread by oral or kiss or by skin to skin contact or sexual route. The chances are more when there are active lesions than asymptomatic lesions.contact with the lesions are required to be transmitted.so there is no possibility of infection transmission by the mode described. You can get back to me for any clarifications with the photos and details.Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist and Venereologist
